Being a "Returner"

You took a break from the corporate world to raise kids, take care of a loved one, or any number of reasons and now you want to return to work.  How do you turn the thought into reality?  Start by saying it out loud, “I want to go back to work.”

The phrase itself holds so many thoughts – can I balance the demands on my time, what will I do, what will I do about childcare, who will walk my dog, I could really use the extra money to pay for X and so much more.

Now that you have admitted you want to return to paid employment and listed all the obstacles in the way, how do you move forward? It will be little steps and leaps, easy one day and wearisome the next. We are women like you who are working hard to be  “returners” and sharing our experiences and thoughts to support each other and you, but also to keep us honest about the process – it’s not easy but it can be done!

You’ve taken the first step – reaching out to see what other women are doing to return to the workforce. Congratulations! Take a deep breath and keep moving forward.
