It’s your abilities, not your experience

A common misconception among returners is that we are not hirable. That inner roommate likes to flood your brain with thoughts to convince you that you will never find a job. “I’m too old, no one will be interested” and “I’ve been away for so long; my experience is so outdated” are common refrains.

So how do you sound like you know what you are doing when you have been out of the game for so long?

As a returner, you want to highlight your abilities. You may not have experience with this methodology or that technology but you have incredible potential. You have a career of learning new skills and achieving amazing results. So highlight your wealth of skills and abilities that are transferable to any job and stop worrying if your experience is an exact match for the role.
